Description
Jewish History, the Church and Antisemitism: A Jewish Perspective
Jewish history is punctuated with acts of antisemitism. As we go through Jewish history from the biblical account to the global Jihad movement, we will learn about the morphing of the longest hatred over the centuries. Antisemitism didn’t happen in a vacuum and it can be fought.
Course Outline
Antisemitism is prejudice or hatred directed at Jewish people because they are Jewish, and is the oldest racial hatred in history. We will travel through time from theological anti-Judaism to today’s New Antisemitism, and learn how to recognise and fight antisemitism in its different guises.
Upon completion, students will have gained insight into:
• Jewish History through the lens of Antisemitism
• The progression and multiple morphing of antisemitism over the centuries
• The Church’s mistakes and responsibility with the Jewish people
• How to respond to Jewish objections based on antisemitism.
• Utilising antisemitism as a tool for outreach in the Jewish community
