Intermediate Biblical Hebrew (Part 3, 2026) (Live Online Course)
The Intermediate Biblical Hebrew part 3 course is designed for students who completed Intermediate Biblical Hebrew parts 1-2, or for those with previous knowledge of Hebrew. Students will continue to use the textbook The First Hebrew Primer: The adult beginner’s path to Biblical Hebrew to deepen their knowledge of the grammar, vocabulary and syntax of Biblical Hebrew. Students will continue to read the Book of Ruth and explore the features of Hebrew prose.
Classes will be taught over Zoom each Monday night, 13 July – 14 September 2026, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (AEST).
Course Outline & Student Outcomes
Intermediate Biblical Hebrew Part 3 will run for 10 weeks in Term 3, and be followed by Intermediate Biblical Hebrew Part 4 in the last term of 2026. Students will explore the features of the derived verbal stems, expand their vocabulary, improve reading fluency and accuracy, and apply translation methods to achieve a precise and informed translation of the biblical text. Weekly homework exercises and in-class reading practice will focus on improving reading and comprehension skills.
Students will continue to use the textbook: Simon, E., Motzkin, L. and Resnikoff, I. (2005) First Hebrew Primer: The Adult Beginner’s Path to Biblical Hebrew. Third Edition. Berkeley, California: Publishing, EKS.
The weekly classes will have the following structure: Review homework from previous week, introduce & discuss new material, read aloud in class, and introduce homework for the next week. There will also be periodic revision classes.
Course Outcomes
Review Qal, and Piel patterns in perfect, imperfect, participle, command and infinitive forms.
Review drop letter imperfect, third-hey, and hollow (middle-weak) verb roots.
Review possessive pronoun endings added to singular nouns (chaps 15 & 16) and plural nouns (chap 22)
Learn Hiphil (causative) verb pattern and their variations in drop letter imperfects and hollow verbs (chapters 24-26)

Course Instructor
The course will be taught by Eleanor Miles. Eleanor holds a BA in Biblical Literature from Oral Roberts University, and is currently working on a Master of Divinity in Messianic Judaism from the Feinberg program at Talbot School of Theology. Eleanor has taught Biblical Hebrew in Australia and the USA for many years. Eleanor works with the ministry of Celebrate Messiah in Canberra, co-pastoring Hineh Yeshua Messianic Congregation.
