The Gospel of John: A Messianic Jewish View (Live Online Course)
The Gospel of John is often considered the most “philosophical” of the four Gospels. However, John was no Greek philosopher; his Gospel is profoundly rooted in Jewish thought, scripture and tradition. This course will illuminate the Jewish worldview that shaped this pivotal New Testament text, and enrich your understanding of both its timeless message and of Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah.
This 8-week course offers a unique opportunity to explore John’s Gospel through a distinctively Messianic Jewish lens. We’ll delve into its rich imagery, uncover Older Testament themes, and examine the Jewish historical context of Yeshua’s day. We will explore how John presents Yeshua within a Jewish framework, drawing upon Older Testament background and engaging with the religious landscape of his time.

The Logos from a Messianic Jewish Perspective (John 1)
Yeshua meets Rabbi Nicodemus (John 3)
Yeshua at the Feast of Tabernacles and Simchat Torah (John 7-9)
A Messianic Healing: The Blind Man Sees (John 9)
Yeshua at Chanukah; the Feast of Dedication (John 10)
Yeshua at the Passover (John 12-16)
Betrayed, Arrested and Forsaken (John 18-19)
Yeshua is Alive: The Importance of the Resurrection (John 20)

Course Instructor
The course will be taught by Paul Cohen. Paul is an experienced biblical studies teacher who has worked with a variety of evangelical missions to the Jewish people in Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands. Paul’s teaching brings a richness and depth to the study of the Bible, drawing on the Jewish background of the Scriptures and shedding light on less well-known books and topics. He is a knowledgeable, gracious and patient teacher who always remains faithful to the Word and his teaching points to Yeshua. Paul teaches at the Western Sydney Bible School and works with the ministry of Celebrate Messiah in Sydney, Australia.
