Replacing “Replacement Theology”

Lecture Part 1:

Lecture Part 2:

Location:
Beit HaMashiach (206 Bambra Road, Caulfield South VIC 3162)

We are living in a time of unprecedented confusion about Israel, the Jewish people, and the Church. As antisemitism reaches alarming levels around the world, anti-Israel sentiment has become increasingly common—not only in secular society but also within parts of the evangelical church. Questions that many thought had been settled are once again being debated:

  • Has the Church replaced Israel?
  • Do God’s covenant promises to the Jewish people still stand?
  • How should followers of Jesus understand the relationship between Israel and the Church?

For this reason, Celebrate Messiah is honoured to host one of the world’s foremost New Testament scholars, Dr. Darrell Bock, for a compelling two-part lecture series: “Replacing ‘Replacement Theology’: A Biblical Vision for the Church and the Jewish People.”

Dr. Bock will present a fresh and deeply biblical alternative to Replacement Theology—one that takes seriously the whole counsel of Scripture and demonstrates how God’s enduring purposes for Israel and the Church beautifully complement rather than compete with one another. Rather than asking whether Israel has been replaced, these lectures will explore how the New Testament presents the Church and the Jewish people within God’s unfolding redemptive plan.

Dr. Darrell Bock

Dr. Darrell Bock is Executive Director of Cultural Engagement and Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. Holding a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and postdoctoral studies at the University of Tübingen, he is internationally recognised as a Humboldt Scholar, a former President of the Evangelical Theological Society, and a consulting editor for Christianity Today. He has authored or edited more than 45 books, including landmark commentaries on Luke and Acts, and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading evangelical scholars on the New Testament, the historical Jesus, and the relationship between Israel and the Church.

To enrich the discussion:

  • Tuesday evening will include a response from Dr. Brian Rosner, Principal Emeritus of Ridley College and current Director of Research and Senior Lecturer in New Testament. Dr Rosner is one of Australia’s leading evangelical theologians.
  • Thursday evening will conclude with an extended Questions & Answers session, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Dr. Bock on this vital subject.

Admission is FREE. No registration or tickets are required. If you are unable to attend in person, both evenings will also be livestreamed. The links for each session will be sent closer to the event. Make sure you are subscribed to our email newsletter to receive the links.

Whether you are a pastor, ministry leader, Bible student, or simply someone seeking to understand God’s purposes for Israel and the Church more clearly, this promises to be a thoughtful, biblical, and timely series.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to your church, Bible study, ministry team, and friends.
